Exporting Blog and Images from Squarespace

To transfer all of the blog posts and their data (like images, authors, tags, categories, etc.) from your previous Squarespace website to your new Brighter Vision website, we will first need you to export all of the posts and images into an XML file that your design team can easily upload on your behalf.

This is the easiest and most secure way for us to transfer all of your blog post data from Squarespace to your new Brighter Vision website.

Do not worry about transferring your domain name yet. You will be able to transfer it later when you are ready to launch your new Brighter Vision website.

Getting Started

Step 1: First, you will need to log into your Squarespace website. Log in here.

Step 2: Click on the Website button to open your Squarespace website.

Step 3: In order to properly export your content, you will want to:

  1. Clean up your website by removing any unwanted blog posts or blog post drafts.
  2. Keep your previous website active until after the transfer has been completed.

Exporting your Data

To create the XML file with all of your site’s blog posts, please follow the steps below to ensure the complete transfer of your data.

Step 1: In the left-hand sidebar click on the Settings option.

Step 2: On the Settings page, click on Import & Export Content under the Website heading in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 3: On the Import & Export Content page, click on the Export button.

Step 4: When the Export Site pop-up window opens, select the WordPress option.

After you select the WordPress logo, the export will automatically begin.

Step 5: Once Squarespace has finished exporting your content, you will see a notice like the one below.

Then, you can download the XML file of your content by clicking the Download button.

Step 7: Now that you have downloaded your XML file to your computer, you can attach that XML file to an email to your design team. Then, we will import the file into your new Brighter Vision Website for you within two business days.

*Note: Not every aspect of your Squarespace site can be automatically exported. This includes product pages, album pages, event pages, audio or video blocks, product blocks, style changes, templates, custom CSS, folder and index pages, and any additional blog pages (only one blog page can be automatically exported). Content that can be automatically exported includes all basic pages, including just one blog page and all blog posts within it, text blocks, image blocks, embed blocks, and gallery pages.

After Your Export

If you do not have a domain through Squarespace and are hoping to delete your previous Squarespace website after you have exported your data, it is very important to wait until after the XML files have been successfully imported into your new Brighter Vision website, which may take up to two (2) business days.

Your Design Team will send you an email within two (2) business days letting you know when your data has been successfully transferred.

If you do have a domain through Squarespace and wish to transfer it Brighter Vision and close your Squarespace account, you can refer to our article: Preparing Your Squarespace Domain for Transfer
